VESAK 2009

Dharma
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term dharma (Sanskrit: dhárma, Pāḷi dhamma), is an Indian spiritual and religious term, that means one's righteous duty or any virtuous path in the common sense of the term. In Indian languages it contextually implies one's religion. Throughout Indian philosophy, Dharma is presented as a central concept that is used in order to explain the "higher truth" or ultimate reality of the universe.

The word dharma literally translates as that which upholds or supports, and is generally translated into English as law. The word "dharma" can also be translated as "the teachings of the Buddha".

Happy Vesak Everyone.

okay religious outrage aside...
i am glad today's a holiday, and im glad i had a class this morning with the kids.

besides that...? okay Straits Times special Vesak Day Report. what else?
ive been really lost for a long while.
i absolutely dont appreciate the sing-along sessions, bonding sessions, volunteer for the temple, and the hostility and office politics at all those events.

ive discussed this with my ma many many times already.
the old use to say 'niam keng good for you. the more you clock the better for you'.
not that i dont see that they mean well. but i just agree with the all u have to do is 'niam keng'.
its like why i dont like the idea of... okay lets not go there...
my ma agreed with me. its the many facets of buddhism. something for the vast variety of people out there.
the less literate would appreciate the simplicity of 'niam keng' and be good.
some may find the volunteering a more appreciable side to so called relief the burden of their 'wrong-doings'.
and for me; im the question, answer, understand, appreciate.
i like to put it as im the 'chim' seeker.

ive always been vexed seeing the young seek excitement, thrill, ? fashionable, friendship in a religion. sometimes almost as aimless as a karchua without its head.
(hey! i AM a karchua to many of my friends okay~)
its aimless because they dont question, dont understand. just believe.
okay believe sometimes is a strong weapon of choice, especially coupled with hope.
but what comes after that? emptiness?
but they are so into it~ they spread the joy all around.

I dont see alot of these related to buddhism though...
and some of the channels that ive had were closing. more like im closing the doors to these alternatives.
i dont know why. too commercial? too cheeky? too demanding? too fake?
trust me. it can be when money makes THIS world turn round.

so i may have stumbled and continued my journey starting with these 2 links that's in Straits Times today. lets give it some time to run.

i dont know if its THE type for me as yet~
but hey! its VESAK. lets just smile and relish this day.

Happy Vesak Everyone~!
